Does anyone have a sensory room in their school? As the K-5 Special Education teacher, I'm responsible for creating a Sensory Room in our school. I'm interested in your suggestions!

Sounds cool. I would partner with your OT. Your going to need things like kinetic sand, water beads, probably a swing, maybe some hokie stools, but they would know best. Also google sensory gyms in the area and take a tour

like

Ridiculous

Our OT helped a lot with putting ours together. We have various stations set up- scooters, trampoline, bubbles, sit and spin, body socks, bean table, exercise balls, etc.

We have one in our school and I try to have a sensory area in my classroom....a punching bag is very popular in the school sensory room. Bubble wrap and head phones are popular in my room.

Start with your budget. That will determine what you can do. Our sensory room is homemade weighted blankets, calming jars, texture books, a trampoline I brought from home, and a couple large patio chaise pillows on the ground with diffused light covers on the ceiling. We also have a old Kindle to play music or use as a timer. My budget was obviously not anything to brag about.

YES! I have one in my classroom

I have one in mine!! We have crash pads, a swing, sensory items, and tunnels

I think you should decide if you want an active or calming sensory room. Fun and Function is an amazing resource that can break down sensory items!

That’ll be awesome! I really think those are just as important as the calming rooms

Hey fellow fishies! There have been some questions lately about men lurking in this bowl. I’ve reached out to Fishbowl and a rep reassured me that only users who identify as women are allowed access to this bowl. If any men have misrepresented their gender in order to gain access, please flag the user and/or reach out to a bowl leader or Fishbowl support asap! Definitely want to make sure this space remains safe and private so we can continue to share freely 🙏

I went to my GE science teachers and asked for a comprehensive list of what is taught in biology in our GE classes. My goal is to take the main ideas and bring the concepts down to the level of my students to keep them moving at a similar rate. I was told they do not feel they can share that with me because we do not have our class assignments for next year yet.

SSSOOOO...can anyone help me come up with a Biology Concept list?

Good Morning everyone, I am trying to work on my benchmarking for the beginning of the year. The school uses Fast Bridge for Math and English/Reading Comprehension however Fast Bridge does not have anything for Writing. What kind of process are you using to assess a SLD in Writing. Just wanted to share this with people who would understand. Had 4 IEP meetings last week. When the case manager asked one mother if she had any concerns she said her only concern was that her kindergarten son with autism loved me so much she was afraid of him being promoted and being out of my room. I told her not to worry, in our program I will have him for 2 more years. Boy that made me feel good.

Hello Good Teachers. I am new and happy to be here.🙂

I’m a SPED Resource/Inclusion Teacher which I really love. I really like working with the Gen Ed teachers maybe because my background is Gen Ed. I’m noticing many SPED team members go straight to the principal if they have an issue with a Gen Ed teacher instead of going to the teacher directly. Is this the norm now? What happened to SPED working with Gen Ed? Maybe I’m old school, but this seems so wrong to me. Thoughts?
