Why the heck would anyone get their tax return done at a big four accounting firm? You are paying $600 an hour to have your information sent to India where it is completed and then returned to the office where is is “reviewed” by fresh accounting grads, many of which who have never even looked at an actual tax return before. The preparers at H&R Block and Liberty Tax get more training than “preparers” at some of these accounting firms…

At this point anybody who supports the rioters and is pretending theyre peaceful is willfully blind. It’s getting legitimately scary out there and we’re all supposed to pretend this is some sort of purposeful, nuanced protest? Go look at the videos of whats happening

My firm gave me a performance based hike this month - but after taxes and pension it\s only ~110$ more. I know I should be grateful about even earning and getting a raise during a pandemic, but realistically it's so low it wouldn't even change my current lifestyle

When first starting a small business is it absolutely crucial to have a website? I have a physical space and was just planning on getting clients through word of mouth and do scheduling over the phone since I have a receptionist/helper. Should I wait until I have a site to open? Everything else is almost done and ready to go.

Looking for tips on discovery software. Some of our cases warrant the cost of relativity or catalyst, but many don’t. How do you get emails and text messages from clients? Hello!! I'm looking for a recommendation for a courier service that knows their way around the Miami-Dade County courthouse at 73 W. Flagler St, Miami. We are a business located in Seattle and need to pick up and record a certified judgment to obtain a lien. Even though this is a time sensitive matter, it's also sensitive in general, so looking for someone reliable. Thanks!

I work at a small firm with not that many workable templates so I usually have to do everything from scratch like drafting motions, pleadings, and researching all potential counts every time. Do bigger firms have better and more templates that allow you to have to do less research?

What is a reasonable amount to accept to settle a case with undisputed liability? Let’s say for example potential damages are realistically $100k-1M. Let’s say cost of defense is $200k. No chance of them getting out on SJ or a MTD. Is cost of defense a reasonable starting point? It seems like an offer below that would not be serious.

When do I move on? - I know doc review is a big part of this job at my level - but I feel like a ghost, no one emails/calls or asks me for anything it’s been 2 months- my reviews in the past have been great and I have good relationships but I don’t feel like I’m anyones first pick. Is 180 billable hours per month a high “target” (to use the firm’s vernacular) or expectation?Although it may not be unreasonably high, I believe it is a high number and would at least appreciate someone at my firm acknowledging that. Perhaps I’m wrong and I’m sure you’ll tell me if so.

I’m a 5th year associate and decided to stop taking a paycheck this year for a larger percentage of fees. I’m in a firm that gets a lot of high fee cases but has just 2 attorneys. I have about 20 good nursing home cases and am working out the contract. I don’t think I should pay more than 20% overhead with 40% fees on my cases considering Firm gets 100% of owner cases and 60% of mine. Granted, 99% of my cases came from Firm/Boss. I’ve made about $80K so far . Thoughts? Am I asking too much?

How much do your personal beliefs influence your work, and in what ways? For example, if you were a Bernie Bro, would you ever represent Trump or a Trump-endorsed/affiliated person/entity, and vice versa? Do you think you have an obligation to turn down work for a client whose beliefs you personally find repulsive? Or do you think your obligation is to set aside your personal beliefs and act in your client’s best interest regardless of how distasteful you may find them to be?
