If I want to finance a private party purchase with a car loan from a credit union, how does it work from a tactical perspective. Say I’m looking to purchase a car in the $15-20k range - my credit is good and my local CU offers 2.5% for 48 months, so it’s smart to use financing since the cash is so cheap.

How much do I get approved for? Do they just wire me the cash and I bring them the title later or do they issue a cashiers check to the seller for the exact vehicle I’m buying?

FYI, be wary if someone calls you saying they’re from unemployment. I just received a call from “Justin” saying he was calling regarding my claims issues. The claim he was referring to 1 that’s been closed already (due to severance) & and I have a new one that’s approved. He asked if the last 4 digits of my SSN were my phone number(?). He couldn’t read me back the digits or any info he had in the system. I was told previously in the message portal they can’t call directly to discuss claims 🚩🚩

My firm wants us back in the office at least 4 days a week, which is whatever. I love WFH but as long as I can do it 1-2 days a week and come and go as I please, I’m happy enough. But I’m having a big issue… I cannot be super productive in the office. I’m totally fine at home, but in the office, I can only be productive with brief or firedrill tasks. If I have to draft something? I just spin my wheels. Cont..

Anyone know what kind of salary a mid-level attorney (4-6 year) can expect when moving in-house (greater Los Angeles area)?

Two of my really good friends at work have had their work dry up in the past few months (because of the Rona). I'm like two months ahead of them on hours, and they're worried about not making their minimum billable requirements.

Feel sort of guilty and try to avoid talking about hours with them. I'm just hoping the firm doesn't give them trouble...

I don't understand why firms aren't delaying the start of the incoming 1st year associate class. they can't already know whether their year end collections will be roughly on track with receivables, or catastrophically lower. why not build up capital reserves, particularly at a time when associates are reportedly less busy than partners? not to mention, orientation and training are easier when phased returns to offices post-pandemic are complete. hell, we might have a vaccine before January...

Q re the term “colleague.” As a senior associate writing an email to opposing counsel, I sometimes refer to the partner on the case as “my colleague Mr. Smith” or the paralegal as “my colleague Mr. Smith.” Opposing counsel just advised that I shouldn’t use “colleague” because that term implies that I’m the same rank/role. But I hate saying my paralegal Mr. Smith-seems possessive. Do others avoid “colleague”? What term do you use instead to introduce someone on your team of a different role?

I moved across the country in the fall to join a V5 firm and I absolutely hate it. I’ve decided to leave after bonuses in January to seek out a job where I may have some semblance of a weekend and perhaps some mental stability. I’m finding it extremely difficult to deal with the mental burden of just “hanging in there” and selling yet another year of my life to the biglaw machine. I know this is a choice I’ve made, but the toll it has taken on my mental health has been shocking. Any advice?
