McKinsey & Company As a leader in cyber, one of my aspirations is to increase the diversity of any organization that I am a part of.
For example…When I was in Big4, I referred several diverse candidates who are thriving & now, at McKinsey & Company, I set a personal goal to refer 1 diverse candidate, especially in (but not necessarily exclusive to) cyber/tech/IT, for every month of my tenure.

Some of the comments are concerning. As a 5th grade teacher, I've had transgender, gay, non binary, and fluidity students. I didn't know what non binary was 7 years ago. I learned through 2 of my students and reaching out to our local LGBTQ Center. It was an eye opener for me.

I shared on the other post but I was reminded today that it’s not just trans or non-binary where it becomes an issue. My daughter identifies as a girl But she prefers boy clothing and has a short haircut. Today she had a substitute that kept calling her sir. She was kind of upset but she also knows it was an innocent mistake. But that teacher could have avoided the whole thing
The book “beyond the gender binary” is a must read. It can be found on Amazon for about $8. What is your primary concern?
My primary concern is just better understanding . Thanks for the recommendation

I hope someone is there for kids that have parents like the other responders. It’s so sad. This is very helpful.

If you'd enjoy a philosophical (and sometimes NSFW) take on the topic, you might check out Natalie Wynn (Contrapoints) on youtube. She's a trans woman who doesn't adhere to any particular dogmas and is really incisive about breaking down various topics related to gender and society's reaction to those who don't fit a particular mold. Also I find her really funny, although some of the jokes are Gen Z enough to go over my head.

This is a quick read with some great info. Whether or not you discuss it with students, I think it's vital for teachers to be aware of and respectful of kids' gender identity and gender expression. ALL PEOPLE (cis, trans, non-binary, agender) perform gender expression. Gender is a social construct and has to do with culturally accepted norms for feminine and masculine behavior (norms which vary from culture to culture and over time). We all express our gender differently - some cisgender women are very feminine and embrace all things "girly" and some cisgender women do not. More and more we're seeing students embracing aspects of both genders and resisting the idea that they have to be one thing or another. As educators, we can support them by using as much non-gendered language as possible. It's just the kind thing to do. It doesn't have to be a political thing (I know teachers across the political spectrum who respect other people's pronouns and gender expression) and I just don't see nonnormative gender expression as disrespectful or problematic.
