Have competing offers from EY and KPMG UK Economic advisory teams( Manager/Snr Exec level). KPMG's UK technical rep and comp offer is better, but the hours appear longer. EY UK Director has had several calls selling culture (diversity and work life balance). Is there actually a substantive emphasis on this by EY? Or are 50+ hour weeks quite common?

I suspect it's going to be quite team dependent/ project dependent, and therefore a gamble in any case.

To the solo attorneys:
Is it possible to make a living on a practice centered around a single area of law? I work in a small general practice firm, but the only cases I actually enjoy working on are the ones that deal with property. Do any of you have a successful practice that focuses on one area?

Leaving the only home I’ve ever known (small real estate and litigation firm for last 7 years) to go out on my own. I know scared money don’t make money. Think I have the requisite skill set to do it, more worried about not having any clients. Any tips from others who have been through the same? Should I dump money into marketing by the buckets? Should I expand practice areas to put food on table (aka jump into cesspool family law)?

I’m an associate attorney at a mid-size family law practice. (5 attorneys, 3 support staff). I’ve been here for 3 years and just asked for a raise to $130k from $90k. My annual billable target is 1400. However, since I’ve been here I’ve barely broken 1000 despite working my ass off. I bill out at $375. They told me no more raises unless I start taking my own cases. Now they just hired a new associate and are paying him $170k and he takes his own cases. Am I being unreasonable asking for $130k?

Managing attorneys in small firms - how much do you make?

I'm in South Florida. Currently a 6 year associate at a small firm (~12 attorneys, 55 staff). Making a move towards Managing Attorney position that they are considering hiring from outside the firm for. I'm going to make the case that they should promote from within and give me the position. I'm objectively a good candidate for it. Question is... what's a good salary for that position? What do you make? Thanks.
