Hello, question:
I’m I overthinking? I have been with my company as a RC for more than a year, no raise or position change, been doing the same thing since the first day. My one year anniversary came up, and I have literally been chasing my manager for a performance review, seems like he is stalling. Should I start applying to other roles? Is one year + experience enough to move to a higher role?

Gaaah can we PLEASE stop the use of gross but somehow still common workplace phrases like “open the kimono” , “pow-wow,” and “spirit animal”? All of which I’ve heard casually come out of coworkers’ mouths in meetings just this week. Literally stopped an internal review to say “EW, there’s no kimono, [project manager guy]. Get a new catchphrase.”

I have really started to hate how much weight i have gained during the pandemic due to all the staying in, ordering food multiple times a week, not exercising because work hours are tough, gyms being closed. What did you do to combat the weight gain/facilitate weight loss? What kinds of foods to avoid, eat more of, healthier snacking options? I drink a lot of coffee but i always did and don’t think that added to my weight. I need to lose about 8-10lbs.

I’m taking the SPHR in less than 2 months and haven’t started studying for it. How difficult is it? First time poster here!

After spending 4 years as a mid-level ops manager, I tried to break into HR through talent acquisition. Now after 6 years in TA, I've had a hard time getting out of it. My goal was always to get into a more broad HRBP position, but I've since worked for smaller orgs without a solid HR career path. When I ask about my career goals, they keep telling me, "Soon!" Or "Maybe in 6 months!"

I'm testing SPHR in June. Any advice for securing the type of role I'm aiming for?

I’ve been with company for a little over 3 years as a Talent Acquisition Specialist. There’s been recent changes within Leadership that has caused everyone to leave, except myself. My workload has increased and I’ve taken on a bulk of the work as we rebuild our team. All recent hires on my team, same role as me, has been receiving a much higher salary. Of course the market has changed since I’ve been here however, the newbies are reaping the benefits of it. How should I request for a raise?

Looking for some feedback on a new role opportunity! I am deciding between 2 generalist roles - one at a large law firm and one at global tech and software development company. Role responsibilities and comp is the same and as well as hybrid work set up and general team structure, so I am really looking for insights based on my future career plans.

So I’m in people ops (for lack of a better term) at a national nonprofit for 3 years now and I am *struggling* to pivot into more traditional HR roles and people ops positions outside of the nonprofit space. Has anyone here successfully made that pivot? What did you find most helpful?

Our CEO wants more people to come into the office (most of our roles are remote/hybrid) and he's asking me what we can do to encourage employees who are local to come in 2-3 times a week. Any suggestions? We've tried biweekly happy hours at a local restaurant, catered lunch, and an ice cream truck for the building over the summer.

I was offered 50k RSU, HRBP role in Fremont. Is this fair? I'm comparing Amazon vs. Tesla HRBP pay.

Any thoughts on the best certifications to get in order to help move forward? I have considered the CCP from World at Work, but it’s fairly pricey to get by the time you wrap up everything. I was looking at both SHRM-CP and SPHR. Everyone that I have spoken to has the SHRM, but that’s also only looking at individuals in a small geographic footprint and within 3-4 different companies. I was hoping to get some thoughts on this from others? Thanks

I was just hired as HR Generalist/department of one/first HR hire for a small start-up. First week in and I find out that previous COO is in rehab and has made some some egregious promises around comp, additional benefits to EEs, and also made some decisions that cost the company a significant amount of money. Company has offered to pay for 2 months leave. Now it seems like owner and other execs do not want this person to return. What do I need to consider regarding termination? Is ADA at play?
