Does anyone have any book recommendations for overcoming emotional abuse? Have finally cut off all contact with an ex who constantly negged, manipulated, and demeaned me into believing I was worthless and I’m having difficulty coping. (I already have a psychologist)

OP, congrats on cutting off contact! I wasn't in an emotionally abusive personal relationship, but was working for an extremely narcissistic boss who targeted me. Two books I found helpful during that time: - The Gift of Fear - helped me start trusting my instincts again. One warning, I've read that the domestic abuse chapter is problematic and that you should skip that chapter, but otherwise a great book - In Sheep's Clothing: Understanding and Dealing with Manipulative People - also helpful in identifying patterns of behavior and some coping strategies. Good luck!

Ohh very interested in the second. I’m so terrified of coming out of this and having history repeat itself.

Stuff that’s good for the soul — I relied on these books when I was coming out of an emotionally abusive relationship: - any of rupi kaur’s books - wild by cheryl strayed - high fidelity by nick hornby - 10% happier by dan harris Not exactly what you’re looking for, but healing also involves feeding your soul enjoyment, and these really worked for me.

Some soul nourishing never hurt anyone. I’ll put these on my holiday reading list, thank you.

Proud of you for taking the plunge ! I am sure it is a tough spot to be and a rough road ahead BUT you thinking about over coming things rather than sulking you my dear are SUPER STRONG ❤️! Some of the books i like, check the reviews/ subject and see if anything resonates with you: > You can heal your life - Louise Hay > It is easier than you think - Sylvia Boorstein >Feeling Good - the new mood therapy - David D Burns > A course in miracles- Alan Cohen My personal fav is "Inner Engineering" by Sadguru ! This might be a bit dry & too much information for you at the moment but do check it out. You got this ! We are here for you ! If you ever need anyone to rant/ just chat feel free to DM me ! 😊

Glennon Doyle “Untamed” for inspiration on living as yourself Bessel vanderKoch “The body keeps score” to understand how trauma affects the brain and how to heal Kishimi’s “The courage to be disliked” for a radical challenge about what meaning you ascribe to the abuse Also ask your psychologist for suggestions if you haven’t. Reading and discussing something together could be a good approach for your work together.

Attached by Amir Levine has been recommended by my therapist to help understand love and attachment styles, and I also might recommend Glennon Doyle’s untamed and brene brown’s books (or podcast) as a way to start reconnecting with your intuition

“Why does he do that?” By Lundy Bancroft. It really helped me understand the it is the underlying attitudes and values that would make them abusive (including emotional abuse). It gave me a lot of clarity and relief. Stay strong OP ❤️ we got your back!
