Apply on their website and network with current employees. It’s the same as other places.
Trust me, you’re definitely not going to become a member of CIASAD unless you came from SOCOM in the Military.
In all seriousness though, the agencies have a vastly different missions, so make sure you know exactly which one you’re going to and way. ODNI is different from the NSA, different from the DIA, different from the NRO and so on. and so forth.
Almost anything on the human side of the equation will require military and/or foreign service experience (including foreign languages).
On the analysis side, deep expertise in something specific and technical is a huge plus. For example, having a PhD in chemistry, or having XYZ certifications in software language of some type, these are very favorably looked at.
Normal business office operations like accounting or HR won’t be as tough from a credential standpoint, but keep in mind that you WILL have to do a background check. And take it from me, these are pretty intense. Each agency is a little different, but I guarantee you will have to provide character witnesses, a list of your residences over the last 7-10 years, every job you’ve had, and likely have to take a polygraph, so keep that in mind. It’s also strongly implied that you should not tell anyone who you are interviewing with.
If you need any additional advice, DM me. I was military for several years before going agency and then leaving for the private world.
