Great firm for funds work but not M&A.

Don’t do it. Sinking ship. Literally go anywhere else . They’re probably offering you a crazy bonus because everyone is leaving.

Agreed with below. Funds it’s the only group hey value. Everyone in the M&A group left and they’re desperately trying to replenish. They retooled their exec comp partner as a M&A partner because they just can’t get anyone. The firm is basically going to become a funds boutique.

We lost a large number of our rainmakers in the past 2 years but our PPP somehow stayed steady/increased. The M&A group in particular seems dead in the water from departures but the firm seems committed to bringing it back to life. Generally happy with partners but YMMV. Firm isn't as funds focused as you would think looking outside in but fund/pe clients flow throughout every practice group.

Don’t. They’re trying to do a full rebuild after mass departures, but not sure who their clients will be. Could be an opportunity for someone to move into biglaw M&A from a nontypical background but if you have other options, go with those.

I’m a former associate from another group but I was there for three years and can offer some insight on the group.

Need recommendations for things to do tonight and tomorrow night in Boston. I am on-site - Boston downtown till Thursday. First time in Boston. I will most probably be solo (may be 1-2 coworkers but not sure). Want to explore the bar scene, and meet random people (like it used to be before COVID). I know most night clubs are closed on weeknights, so looking for next best thing. M, 30s. Tia.

Hi Tax Bowlers, I'm an experienced associate (2yrs) in a Big 4 Transfer Pricing division. I have reached a point in my career where I am considering taking up a professional certification. Several colleagues recommended taking up either ACCA or CFA, however, I see little connection between these certifications and the work that I am currently doing, and what I plan to do in the future. What would you guys suggest? Would it be detrimental to my career if I did not take up any certifications?

Why do some companies ask for 8+ YoE + MBA for mid-management positions (Manager, Sr. manager, Associate, Sr. Associate). At 8 YoE the super talented people would probably be looking for director level roles. Wouldn’t it be better to get them at like 3-5YoE?

Help me choose between these offers: €105k TC corp strat SM at a DAX company in Germany in a LCOL but nice city. €7.5k signing bonus + relocation. Culture is pretty good, pay should go up to €130k+ within a couple of years. $200k base M at B4 in Chicago. The culture is the culture. $25k signing bonus. Long-term, I'd rather live in Germany, but I have a personal network in Chicago from business school so either is fine in the short-term. Thanks for your input.
