Does anyone have any insight on the Pillsbury NY office? The people I’ve met seem really great — what has it been like working across from them? Any particular standout groups?

Filled with a lot of old partners from other firms that don't feel like working anymore. Next level down are overworked junior partners too busy to train associates. Work is not very sophisticated. They struggle in hiring a diverse group of attorneys.

Did an OCI callback there years ago and one of the partner interviewers kept repeating over and over again during our interview that big law was finished as a business model. He then asked me my view on whether it was sustainable for the legal services industry to continue to grow faster than US GDP as a whole.

As a baffled rising 2L all I could respond with was “I don’t see why not” . He ended the interview shortly thereafter.

I didn’t get an offer, thank god.

A3 that is not the point and your response makes me think you will one day grow up to be the partner in A2’s story

I worked at Pillsbury DC office and found it to be a dead-end firm that struggles to have enough business to go around and all partners except in IP are old white male who will impose their boomer standards on the juniors

Can I have some viewpoints on finance vs tech career paths? Currently a data analyst at my firm with 2YOE working mostly with SQL, Python and data viz tools. I have recruiters reaching out to me for M&A positions (Corp dev, IB) and separately for BI analyst positions. Looking for someone to chime in on what influenced them to go one path vs the other as I am evaluating both options.

Trying to pivot into marketing (my original passion) but heard I might have to lower my salary standards. Is it possible to get an entry experienced hire role for 70k+? Or are there any specific/similar roles where this would be more realistic? I live in New York by the way :)

I was a month in as Workday HCM Consultant with Accenture. They immediately throw me into the HCM courses to obtain my WD HCM certification. There are three parts HCM Essentials, HCM Applied, and HCM Practical. The passing score is 70 or above. I scored a 62 on the Essentials portion, I passed Applied, and at the end of this week Practical. During class, I received an “immediate connect” Team call and I was fired because of my low score. I'm devastated, and shocked. Yesterday was my birthday.

Question for the Biglaw Bowl: How common is it to take a pay cut when being promoted from associate to income partner? I had heard about this happening at some lower ranked V100 firms. But now that I’m more senior and my friends are making partner, it sounds like it’s a lot more common than I thought and happens at firms where I wouldn’t expect it. Does anyone here have any insight into this? How common is it, how much of a pay cut, and how long until your pay catches up to associate pay?

Had someone lateral into our firm as a fifth year (soon to be sixth). They were kind of a retool and went from small law to the firm I’m at. They are still learning a lot of basic stuff, and I think it’s weird that the firm hired someone at that level as a retool. They sometimes ask me for help with stuff, but I’m just getting annoyed at this point. Can I just say “no” since they’re about to be a mid/senior associate who should know all of this?

Has anyone successfully claimed that income from a NY big law firm is not NY income based on TSB-M-06(5)I (May 15, 2006)? I think that my situation meets all the factors necessary. I am going to claim that the income should be sourced from Texas—I worked out of the Houston office from time to time while there. I was in Texas for more than half the year.
