Does anyone have any recommendations for a comprehensive course on workplace investigations for in house counsel? I found a decent PLI online course but wondering if there are any upcoming in person trainings anyone knows of. Doesn’t need to be CLE.

I’ve always watched the PLI ones and found them to be preppy well done. Almost all big law firms have employment law related master classes or presentations so you may have luck googling that or asking some of your outside counsel for recommendations.

Hi everyone, I have a question. I am currently in the middle on of an interview process, where I am quite confident that I will get the job... but I want to work for another company that has contacted me 1 week ago to interview but hasn't scheduled the interview yet....

Meaning that their interview process is probably going to take longer... how should I reach out to the company and properly let them know my situation?

Been in house for about a year. I just found out that a new hire who has 1-2 less years of experience than me (but will have the same role/title as me) received a compensation package significantly higher than me, mostly due to the market dynamics with law firm associates’ compensation being ratcheted up the past year. Can I ask for an equitable raise mid year? And if so, how? I got rave reviews but an immaterial pay bump (3%) at year end in December.

I went through the loop at Amazon and ultimately didn't get hired. From what the recruiter mentioned, it wasn't a question of fit but of experience (only about 2.5 years out). I have one pro bono case that I kept when I left my firm to go in house. It’s a matter completely unrelated to my company and I have malpractice insurance through the nonprofit organization associated with the case. I’ve made clear to my client that I’m repping this client in my personal capacity. No one has asked me specifically about pro bono stuff at my company - if I know there’s no conflict of interest, is this something I should disclose? To whom should I disclose this?

I just received an offer for a job I am very excited about. Base is within reasonable range and I will likely go back and ask for a bit more there. The company also offers a yearly cash bonus based on the performance of the company as well as a stock grant. Those are determined based on percentages of base salary. My question is: are those percentages typically negotiated or set based on position?

Since moving in house from PP I’ve been astounded at how often business folks want to set up a zoom call to walk through contracts and rewrite language on the fly. Not only is it terribly inefficient, it leaves virtually no time to actually think through things, especially when dealing with long, complicated contracts for things like software purchases. Just wondering if anyone has any good tips for how to politely point out to people how bad of a process that is, assuming others face the same?

I am a very junior partner that was just offered the opportunity to be the sole in house counsel for a small (75 employees/$40m annual revenue) in an industry where I have very little knowledge. Great opportunity to grow if it goes well but I’m not sure if my background is right. I’ve been looking for a way to transition out of lit and in house and this came about very unexpectedly. Is taking it the right call?
