I might just get a hellcat today. Why freaking not
Did anyone receive onboarding kit today?
I have an interview loop with Amazon this Friday. It was originally scheduled for last week but had to move due to interviewer availability. I had 2 other final interviews last week with different companies and was given two offers on Friday, which I need to respond to today. My interviews are from 11-6 on Friday with Amazon and then I’ve heard it can take up to 5 days to get feedback. I’m frustrated by the timing and don’t know if I should just cancel the Amazon interview. What would you do??
Shoulders day! How about you guys? 💪 💪

Lighting - make sure the light is facing you and not on your back
Wear at least a dress shirt
Clean up your desk
Avoid comments about COVID, quarantine and WFH in general, they can be divisive and many partners would be returning to the office today ig they could
Then act as if it were a regular interview at the office
Ive been helping with recruiting at my firm and there were two candidates that stuck out (in a good way) because they both had 1. A huge, physical, black screen behind them 2. A ring light 3. A real mic and 4. A real web camera.
You don’t need all of that, but just saying it made a difference in terms of my impression on their level of preparation and investment. And I’m sure it made a difference on them too in terms of their own confidence.
I’ve done a bunch of interviews, not that different. Make sure your lighting and zoom background look good. Wear a jacket (or full suit to put you in the right state of mind). Turn off email notifications or close Outlook so you aren’t distracted. Try to make a connection about something. Proceed as you would with a normal interview.
Virtual interview also means you can have notes and questions nearby if you are nervous.
I mostly agree with the comments above. Definitely second placing a light behind your laptop for best lighting. Look into the camera as much as you can to simulate a real conversation.
Log in a couple minutes early in case of last minute tech glitches and wait for the host to start the meeting with you already waiting in the virtual lobby/waiting room.
Covid was brought up (not by me) by a handful of partners and associates during my interviews. I suppose it depends on office culture and where you are in the country geographically right now, but they need to know you can get the job done whether you’re allowed to be in the office or not. I’m not saying you should bring it up, but just be prepared to talk about it anyway.

Second everything above. Practice before hand so you can see exactly what your background will look like, and have a plan for any pets you have. I had my dog snore through a fifth round interview...I got the job, but I was so embarrassed 😂
Also, be prepared for tech glitches and handle them gracefully. During my third interview (with the hiring managers) I couldn’t connect to their remote platform, and we ended up having to email each other and use zoom. It was all fine, but I’m glad I didn’t get flustered by it.
Have you used teams before? I find that it makes whoever’s talking photo very big. It weirded me out the first time because I’m so used to zoom with all the mini pics. Just a heads up
Definitely download the teams app on your phone or laptop ahead of time.
Lighting and background are important. Keep your hands OFF your face. Remove all noise and distractions. A barking dog is not going to ruin a TEAMS meeting, but no so an interview.
Look on Youtube and watch a few of the many tutorials about getting a good camera, a good microphone, and good lighting. Pay attention to camera position, improving the acoustics of your location, and staging a good set in your shot. If they can't see and hear you clearly, you can't make a good impression. Don't go to far and look like a beauty Youtuber, but look professional, engaged, and vibrant.
Quiet spot AirPods in and good eye contact.
Thanks all! I used the tips from here, especially re lighting and set up, and I think it went well.
Update: I got the job!
