Use the timers
Use the timers and get into the habit of closing every day. On some days (long days, especially) it’s hard to force yourself to do it, but once you let it go for 2-3 days, the snowball effect makes it that much harder.
Enter your time at the end of each day, no matter how tired you are.
I think the others posting here have it backwards - by the time the end of the day comes around, procrastination has already kicked in for me.
I used to be terrible at it until I got into the habit of entering it in real-time, after every chunk of work. Once you get in the habit it only takes 20 seconds to input, so you don’t ever have to break the flow of work.
Since you’ve already tried this, I would recommend trying again to enter in real-time for at least two whole weeks. It doesn’t work until it becomes a habit.
Do you have timers?
Do it daily, put it on your calendar, tie it to something else you like to do everyday (eat a snack, watch a show, etc.) and don’t let yourself do the thing you like until you’ve done it. You might also turn it into a self-improvement project and see how you can do it more efficiently each time, like having a checklist, a library of standard time entries, etc. so it doesn’t feel like such a drag.
You don’t HAVE to do it at the end of each day. I did it every day the next morning. If that’s an easier habit for you you can do that too.
I don’t understand the people who use timers. Don’t you get interrupted or start to work on something else and forget to turn off the timer??
No I just don’t forget to turn it off
Timers. Just use them and submit them every day. You will realize more time that way. And stress less.
