Does anyone have experience in transitioning from tax (specifically transaction tax) to an advisory group? Recruiter suggests it’s a mix of FP&A, Deal Advisory and some technical accounting. I definitely am interested in pursuing the role as pivoting out of tax is something I’ve wanted to do, but concerned the learning curve might be overwhelming without an audit background. S2 with 3.5 YOE.

Is it unreasonable to ask someone from PT timezone to follow ET hours for 1 month during critical phase of the project? To be specific.. starting 9AM ET. I have made huge progress in my current role where I make (65k) yearly and have been with for almost a year. It’s a WFH position but I have to attend the conferences I lead. Due to the immense workload I have been taking on, I asked my manager if I would be considered to be promoted to a manager position they are hiring for (who will be doing the same thing I am doing) She told me to wait another year since that is where they are aiming to push me towards. As a government lawyer, I make 6 figures, have excellent benefits, no billable hours requirements, more time off than I know what to do with (including mental health days), a pension, a 401(K), option to chose whether to WFH or not, no weekend work, no working before 8am or after 5pm. It seems like so many lawyers in private practice are unhappy.
