Does anyone have experience leaving public for a fund admin position? Any insight would be appreciated

No but sounds like a step back

funny

I’m pretty new to a fund admin. From what I gather so far it’s similar to public in that your teams and clients greatly impact your experience. Work/life balance is great for some and very challenging for others (mine currently is worse than it was in public 😕). I like the firm that I work for and the pay and benefits are great. Cons are that I hear you can be pigeon holed - it’s a worry of mine. The upside is that you can switch funds and industries if you don’t mesh with a team or like a client, just like in public.

Anyone else have anything to say about these roles? I feel like you can pivot to a fund pretty easily if you work hard?

like

That’s what I’ve heard which is why I’m out here looking for some advice…

like

I heard you have to deal with client and auditors both you need to be mindful and provide good collaboration. Sounds exhausting.

PS: I am looking to get out of tax and working more in a generalized accounting role, preferably in financial services one day. Was hoping that a fund admin/fund accounting role could be a good stepping stone out of tax for opportunities down the road.

I didn’t complete a W-9 last year for my ESPP and was getting charged 24% each time I sold shares last year (about 4 times). Towards the end of the year I competed the W-9 and taxes weren’t being taken out when I sold. The Firm that handles the ESPP said that I should get some of the money back because I was overtaxed, but I’m wondering how to go about this. Is this something that I should include in my tax return?
