Does anyone have experience recruiting statutory 1099 employees? I’ve recently interviewed with a company that recruits non W2 employees and was told I’d have to be comfortable asking questions in the interview that I might normally not be accustomed to asking W2 employees- namely their age, marital status, questions about family makeup and financial stability, etc. I was told that this was acceptable with 1099s. Any insight on this?

I would ask for the data they have to verify you don't get caught up in something bad.

I've recruited and hired many 1099 contract employees. I've never heard of what this company was asking you to potentially do. It just doesn't make sense and how/why would those questions be applicable to the role for which they are looking to fill? I interview 1099ers the same way I would an FTE -- everyone is treated the same. :)

I would be very careful. Sounds like a lawsuit for discrimination waiting to happen.

Your decision to not take the role is a wise one. Ask yourself why any business would need to know that information whether they employed a person on their payroll or they were a 1099?

How does knowing if a person is married or has children or what their sexual orientation is determine if they can or can’t do a job?

Hi! Yes, there is no logical reason an employer would need to know the personal info of any employee, contract or not. As VP HR 1 said, it is really about performing the function of the position. If this brings these questions up before you join the company, there may be other matters that will come out over your time working there.

Hey everyone. I was wondering if anyone has good advice on this: I was recently offered a full-time position and was told in the first interview that the pay range was between $30hr and $33hr. In the verbal offer, they said the pay rate is $28hr. I really like this company but I want to bring up that they meantioned a different pay range at the beginning. Interviews need to be monitored and recorded. I can’t tell you how many disappointed dreams I have been sold. It is a complete waste of time to really wait around to be wishful of a call. Gathering up 10 potential applicants to narrow it down to a top 3 and only make one offer is not acceptable. Much like jury duty, applicants should be compensated for their time.

What do you answer? I feel like there's really no choice but to say 6-7 if you want to say generally competent. Any lower, never getting past that screen. Any higher, you're gonna fail the later interview because of some obscure factoid

Would love some insight on how you went from an HR assistant/coordinator to an HR Generalist. I’ve been in the HR world for 8 years, and only in the last 2-3 have I really done real HR work. Following up from my last post about remote being possible for our profession. Do we as HR professionals have concerns that going remote will also increase outsourcing of the remote roles to more call center environments/PEO/etc.
