I had a vanishing twin. Two heartbeats at 9 weeks, but one embryo was slightly smaller. At 11 weeks both embryos had grown but there was only one heatbeat.
We had a later first ultrasound at 12 weeks and they didn’t catch the sac in the ultrasound but then caught it on genetic testing. He was absorbed. It is apparently more common than most people think. My husband was also supposed to be a twin and his twin vanished at about 8 weeks, his mom had some slight bleeding which is how they even knew to do an ultrasound back then when it wasn’t common practice. My doctors told me back in the day most folks would go without ever knowing, but with modern technology people are getting ultrasounds and interventions earlier that it’s detected more frequently. It’s a weird emotional gymnastics situation.
Yes I had this. Reabsorbed at about 7 weeks. Slight spotting. Physically it wasn’t a big deal, but emotionally for me it was hard. I should’ve been happy at least one of the embryos stuck, but I didn’t feel right celebrating after finding out the twin didn’t make it. It was a weird time.
