Eliminate the things in your life that are causing your stress. At least that is often my problem...brain won't turn off if I have too much to do (stress that I should be working or parenting or whatever).
Take on fewer projects or clients. Finish one more thing before heading home. Give yourself a reward for meeting a goal. Schedule time with those people that you may feel you are neglecting.
I take Advil PM 2-4 times per week to make sure I stay asleep for a full night (my insomnia is waking up and not falling back asleep). I know you don't want a pill option, but it works. The other nights I don't take anything and normally sleep ok (but I've learned to listen to my inner stress levels for poor rest nights).
And diet and exercise can be a big factor...but that's an easy and boring answer.

Nope. SSRI Antidepressants help me regulate my abnormal sleep/wake cycle. Having a very strict bedtime routine helps A LOT: get in bed around 8:30-9pm and read something that’s not that interesting for about an hour. Then watch tv until you pass out
Meditation, I recently went to a yoga class that had an hour long meditation and was able to relax so much easier.
Melatonin
You need to see several doctors to find out the cause: psychologist, psychiatrist, primary care, get blood work done, etc. find out if the cause is psychological or physical. Some vitamin deficiencies can cause insomnia. Few years ago I had vitamin D deficiency &, very severe insomnia- I started taking unisom every night before I knew the cause. Got hooked on it and couldn’t sleep without it
