AD1 - this is not to say the chosen candidate won’t have the skills. The point is, there is a shortage of diverse candidates applying to open jobs so many recruiters and hiring managers want to diversify the applicant pool. Don’t worry, based on your chosen emoji, I’m sure you’ll be fine.
Look into the Multicultural Advertising Intern Program (MAIP). You sponsor a summer intern, get access to diverse junior talent, be seen as an agency that supports D&I, etc
Hire based on skill??? 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️
There needs to be an ongoing strategy and effort to reach out and connect with diverse groups, so that when you have openings you organically are receiving a diverse candidate pool. You can’t just hire 1-2 ppl and say box checked. Candidates want to see that you’re continuously making an effort to connect and engage not just one off appearances. Good luck!!
Try running ads/job postings on diversity related sites or job boards.
Realize that unconscious bias exists (there’s training out there for this, DM me of you wanna know more 😊) and that diversity is something you need to invest in continuously.
Or reach out to diverse support groups and make an effort to get them to apply. It will take quite some time though
Reach out to the American Advertising Federation’s Mosaic Council. They are in DC.
