No but I'm following in case someone has any good ideas. I'm so tired of this, but don't know what else to do with myself.
Following too
As I said, I don't have any good ideas. But here's my reflection:
1. My masters degree in accounting and CPA designation, my 5 years in public and 5 in industry, all are sunk costs. The experience I have may or may not be relevant to my next job.
2. I can only take a job that pays enough to cover my monthly bills & a certain standard of living (I don't shop at Whole Foods but I also don't get my groceries from the food bank). I would ideally like to have a job with health insurance. I want to do something that could lead to me eventually retiring and not being destitute, but I don't need to be earning as much as I am now ($a lot). So I guess as a minimum I need to make $70k, that is enough. It would be tight but I could live comfortably on it if we sold a car.
3. Whatever I decide to do it needs to be something my spouse is on board with.
4. When I dream, I don't dream of going to an office every day. While maybe being the CEO of a charity or something could be fulfilling, I think I prefer something out in nature. I want my working life to be meaningful, something I am good at, and something I enjoy. I haven't figured out if it's starting a small farm where I sell organic local grown fruits and vegetables at farmers markets, or maybe a nutritionist...or idk...some sort of small business person ...something hippy-like that allows me to spend time with my spouse and dogs. Maybe a dog & house sitter. Maybe a park ranger. Idk...personal services don't pay well. Maybe I will just keep doing my current job. But why is it my dream to get laid off and have free healthcare for 6 months?
I am with you on this. Same thinking. I am immigrant so I couldn't pick and choose so I am in fund accounting and it's not bad at all but it does feel meaningless. I also hate being chained to a desk forever.
FDD/Vals > IB > world’s your oyster
It’s tough, still trying
What are you trying to switch into?
FP&A and IT? Within Tax/Accounting there are also Tax Technology and Accounting Advisory to consider. I am exploring as well. Tired of busy seasons.
