I work at protiviti and I think my WLB is terrific I almost never work out of the 8:30-5:30 hours. Sometimes a little later but never more than a 10 hour day, which is only occasionally.
Depends on the project and industry. Risk and compliance is not that way when orgs are under reg pressure especially during this pandemic hours are long.

I work at Deloitte. Usually done by 5ish. But I make sure my team has enough work to keep them up all night.

OP, I think it greatly depends on the project vs just grouping it as a company wide issue. I've had 12-13 hour workdays where this MD loved to schedule meetings at 7:30am. I've had a project where the entire building would be ghost town by 5pm (incl consulting folks) & they'd all be chilling at some restaurants & bars... Both experiences with Accenture.
CL7. In TC.
I second this.
Capital One. Great hours, huge respect for WLB as part of culture. Vast majority of people seem to be offline by 6 at the latest on any given day.
P2 why'd you leave?
At what price tho
Witnessed firsthand...friends going to industry and to get double digit bumps. Going internal to lose only 2% of base salary and basically back to base with a few COL adjustments. There is a fallacy that consulting is worth the blood sweat and tears because the pay is so much better than anywhere else. It’s not. The experience may be great, but the hourly rate is horrendous. Take the experience for what it’s worth and bounce.

I’m USDC GPS and I certainly have some busy days that go past 6pm on occasion, but I’m pretty much 9-5 as well.
ZS associates, great balance, work max 40 hrs. a week
Average 45-55 hours a week for me. Worst days are 8am-11pm and I maybe have about 5 of those per month depending on my projects. Most days are 8:30-6 and earlier on Fridays.
Me, only because I am still very junior and honestly don’t care about moving up, I am fully justified to set the lowest bar for myself in terms of work.

Slalom Consulting is where the WLB party is at.
Only reason I get off at 6 is because my clients an hour behind... don’t kill yourself
I have worked past 6 pm under 10 times in my entire career. FS clients.
It is what it is and finally it’s your choice. Sometimes I prioritize my work and sometime my personnel time.
Work smarter. Not harder.
I wrap up my work by 3pm everyday, walk into my bosses office to flip his desk and yell fuck this place as I walk out the back door.
