Does anyone here follow the Financial Samurai blog? Is so, what do folks think about his numbers for "average net worth of the above average couple"? And how does that jive with the FIRE principles/mindset?

Seems a little high, but he did say this was for the average net worth of the above average couple. The numbers stated for individual and couples are achievable for those working in financial services, consulting, tech or other high income industries.

It’s in line with the FAT FIRE mindset - where the idea is to have sufficient funds to live an above average life without having to work. Not all FIRE journeys are about living off $40k a year and scrimping. I’m targeting to reach $200-250k passive income before 40. Currently am 35 with $125k passive income (from investments). Am also not a trust fund kid either - all saved from a consulting salary.

Yeah we don’t have similar because S&P 500 average has dipped below 2%. If you go outside these stocks you’ll find higher dividends and REIT approaching 10%, but I’m more conservative and like REIT such as Realty Income which only gives 3% dividends, but has lots of stock appreciation.

Very interesting method though.

I’m a frequent reader, this guys numbers (and attitude sometimes) are just nutty. In general I like his take on things, but sometimes he’s ridiculous, like with his 0.5% rule. I’d advise reading and taking it with a grain of salt.

Can you provide a link to his post about the topic?

I don't trust anything "Sam" says.

His advice isn't consistent, nor his stories of his gloried past. If you do some digging you can find his identity, but he isn't transparent like mmm. He really isn't fire as much as he is a self help person.

I heard phone companies have something that uses their cellphone towers to keep track. Any suggestions on gps trackers or other brand products. I am really worried that due to car shortage and job losses thefts are going to go up. Car dealerships are having wait times of 5-6 months for new cars so any theft would create lot of trouble for our young family.
