I got promoted to senior and my raise took me to $69.5k. Am I underpaid? Chattanooga, TN area. To add further context, a brand new staff with no experience just started at $65k after receiving a $5k “inflation bump” right before she started. Advice please - I want to give notice the day after I get my bonus. 25 ish lawyer firm. They taught me everything I know, close-knit culture, etc. A boutique wants me to start at the new year, so two weeks notice falls right after bonuses are paid. Worried the partners will think I’m taking advantage of them, even though it’s a bonus for work I’ve already done, and the timeline is coincidence. Had a 50-page settlement brief due today. My team is just me (first year), a senior associate, and a partner. The senior drafted a skeleton version last week and then went away on vacation for the last week. I worked on it for hours all week long, back and forth with the partner, and it feels so good to have submitted it finally! I’ve never drafted anything this substantive or important so the pressure was on, but it’s great experience! Definitely looking forward to the weekend now 😅

I've been at my current firm (litigation) for the past 4 or so months (first full-time job out of law school and now as an admitted attorney). It's...work. Good co-workers! But not the practice area I want to be in at all. Of course, I knew this going in and I knew what I was signing up for, but all this thinking about my future and where I really want to be (transactional, copyright, or entertainment industry broadly) has caused me great anxiety and stress over the past few weeks.
