Does anyone in here have accommodations at work for concentration/memory issues or something similar (think learning disability, add, PTSD etc). Do these even exist? I know legally they have to, but curious to hear how that works in practice or if people don’t even ask because of the stigma.

I’d try therapy or find a psychiatrist to deal and manage before talking to work about it. Self care, baby!

I have a learning disability, and my firm made accommodations for me. I simply told the partners what I needed and why, and they were totally cool with it.

They did not change their expectations of my work product (volume and quality), but when, where, and how I got it done was not an issue. I always delivered, so I’m not sure what would have happened to the accommodations they made if that had happened.

I asked for low traffic areas to reduce distractions. I asked for the ability to work from home whenever I thought it would be a better environment (I’m old, so WFH was not common for associates when I was one). I asked the managers and partners I worked with to politely let me know if I was rambling or zoning out to help keep me on task in discussions. The alerting me to rambling helped me tremendously... work environment and expectations are drastically different than academia, and I needed to learn new coping mechanisms. By letting me know I was off task, I was slowly able to recognize when it was happening on my own. I worked with good folks.

You should talk to your doctor and they can suggest/recommend changes to your work environment. For example, if you have issues concentrating, having a modified version of MS office/outlook can help you focus. For memory issues, I think that is less of an accommodations question and more about strategies you need to employ to help you remember things. I’m not sure what accommodations will be able to help with memory as remembering things is typically an essential component of our roles.

I had accomodations in college for a learning disability (extended test time and permission to use a computer to take notes).

I never reported to work, because of the stigma and absence of tests in the workplace. Also no one fights me to try to get me to hand write notes in the workforce 🤣

I quit drinking at the first of the year because I was drinking too much as a way to cope with Covid. 99.9% of the time, I’m glad I quit drinking. And then there are those nights when I just want a glass of something to take the edge off, which makes me think alcohol was more of a coping mechanism than I thought and it’s probably a good thing I’m not drinking. I don’t even like wine very much, but I miss that low level buzz that makes everything a little less loud.

I’m a new associate to a T&E group, partner goes away on vacation and leaves me with a 706 to review and sign. The family is very wealthy. Decedent married for 60 years. Partner says it’s “just a DSUE election, decedent was ill for years, no assets.” Provides no records. Not even an admission the decedent owned a toothbrush. So I looked up the decedent’s home - it’s a joint asset. Partner was “surprised”, and still insists “no other assets”. I found file references to art and antiques.
