I have done only 1 in 15 years but know others have done them at my firm. Time is negligible compared to billable cases over the course of. Yet. Usually scenario is client or referral source has some issue with charity/non-profit that we can help with. It is really an investment/BD. Sometimes a bonus to the firm is someone with little or no testifying experience may get to crack the first one through one of these since they are usually unopposed experts and small $ at play.

Haven't yet run into a pro Bono situation yet, in the past six years.

Nope. I tried to suggest it years ago but was told we wouldn't due to the risk.

Agree or disagree — for a B4 tax practice, service line partners are actually more Atkin to middle management and managers are not really “management” in the traditional sense. Ie, we have don’t really have much to say on the strategic direction of our practice.

Can't help but feel behind in my professional life in terms of TC. About to turn 30, MS EE, started embedded sys contracting in college, have written/won a large gov proposal for a startup that eventually kicked me out, led a 10 person team in building a H2 car fueling station prototype for another startup that had funding & CEO issues. Now working the lowest rung in Management Consulting making $100k- when someone with ~7 yoe should be making ~$250k. What am I missing? What should I do instead?

Worked in marketing for almost ten years but usually for companies consisting of 20 people or less. A year ago I landed a content marketing job with a company of 200 and it’s the first time I’ve been focused on “one” marketing function. Thinking of moving to a PR focused position though. Seeking advice. Came into consulting late, after 8 YOE in federal gov. Hired on as a consultant despite exp, and spent last ~4 years in investigations/risk, first at fairly well-known mid-tier firm then a boutique. Twice promoted in that time, so now senior associate/director-level making ~150k TC. Others at my level are abt the same age, so I am almost ‘caught up’. Problem is I dislike the work, feel v burnt out & underpaid. Has anyone successfully exited this space? If so, how and to where? 🙏🏽
