I probably shouldn’t comment since I don’t have real world experience but I will anyway. Based on the high cost of insurance premiums my guess is any supplement policy will far exceed the $5k. My advice would be to start saving $300 per month now (preferably in a HSA) to use when you deliver the baby. Also try to have any other needed medical procedures in the same calendar year. Also beware of the difference between the deductible and out of pocket maximum. Many policies make you pay the first $5k but then you’re still on the hook for 20% (co-pay) of the total cost above $5k until you meet total out of pocket maximum which could be $10k.
Do you have a spouse? If you get on both insurances this MAY help depending on what kind you have. I did this and barely paid anything.
Also an addition, if your insurance plan is just you and you’re adding baby to your plan, your deductible will change as well and likely increase. But may not be something you need to worry about!

Yeah you’re kinda just screwed 🤷🏼♀️ you will pay your deductible and then your OOP Max (deductible goes towards OOP max). If your pregnancy spans two insurance years, you might hit it twice. And then when baby comes, you get a new deductible because you’ll move to a family plan. 6k isn’t that bad honestly.
Do you have an FSA or HSA you can or do contribute to? Even if you can’t get the overall cost down, at least try to pay it wit pre-tax money if you’re not planning to do so already
I contribute to HSA. I did plan on doing that as well :) I feel like there should be some sort of secondary insurance to cover “STD” I just haven’t located it yet lol
