Pros: you can have a car more easily, rent is slightly cheaper, there’s less traffic, and it’s an easier place to live and work if you have a family.
Cons: It’s suburbia. If you’re young and looking for nightlife or big city experiences, you might find it kinda boring. SF is about a 45-minute train ride away, so you can easily make it into the city for a night or weekend. Or, you could live in the city and commute to Sunnyvale. Plenty of people do it, and if you’re working at one of the big tech companies, they might even have a shuttle. Hope this helps.
Sunnyvale is a bedroom community with a small downtown area and a few dive bars sprinkled around. It is a very safe place to live, compared to SF, clean, but not really a place for the young and single. I would pick SF, close to 4th and King and then take the Cal train. That is the most bearable way to do that commute.
Oh wow. Thanks you guys! Very helpful. Seems like definitely commuting in is the way to go. I know the company has a shuttle service available so I might just go in knowing I’ll be utilizing it lol.
It’s like asking how East Orange NJ compares to Crown Heights (if you’re a NYer) in terms of culture and vibe. If you love middle American suburbs with white people who are scared of browns and blacks and the poors, then Sunnyvale is for you. 😐
Totally disagree with this. Sunnyvale has a large Indian population, Asians and areas that are traditionally Latino. In fact, I would say SF is whiter due to gentrification.
