I’m in New York. I’ve got $80k just sitting in my savings account. I can’t afford to buy a place in NY. I’ve considered getting a house or condo in Orlando area since we vacation there quite a bit and I know I can rent out (assuming it’s approved for short term). Would it make sense to buy a place in FL and rent in NY?
I am in TAC for a fairly large networking company. I am making 48k a year with decent benefits and unlimited PTO. I love working at this company and my boss is fantastic. However, I feel as though I am being underpaid given my credentials. I have my CCNA and almost have my CWNA. I am coming up on a year at the company and want to start either negotiating higher pay or looking elsewhere. What should I do and how should I go about it?
Question on 'unlimited PTO'. My last place had this w/was no set rules, we 1st had regular vacay days but when it went to unlimited it was a 'we're adults' understanding to not abuse it. If people used too much, their manager would talk w/them but in general we felt empowered to use it. My new place said at hiring it was unlimited pto, but I've now learned we can't take more than 5 consecutive days & should be ok w it bc they 'give us the weekends so it's really 9 days'. Is this common?
What is PTO at BCG? Not the usual PTO but one used to track projects / resources based on what I have heard
Dear IPG Health, it’s great you are having 2 holiday parties during the work week for employees who only live in the tri-state area. All us remote people look forward to covering for them, yet again.
Hi, I work under contract for a foreign company as an APM. I have an import export licence and send the monthly invoice to my HR. My benefits include the following in-hand allowances: food, internet, sports, vacation, training and hardware. Plus a yearly bonus.
Can someone help me out as this is new to me, how can I save my taxes? (I have to file ITR 4)

EY - What is the maternity leave breakdown? 2 weeks prior to DD + X disability + 16 weeks parental leave + up to 3 weeks PTO? Is the usual 6-8 week disability/medical separate from the 16 week bonding leave?
Just got a promotion to go to 105k + 10% bonus unlimited PTO (trust me when I say I really use my PTO.. 😂) for embedded software engineer in Melbourne Fl. Should I start looking for a new job?
Do industry accountants take vacations that are 2 weeks+? I rarely see my clients go on a long vacation but that’s probably due to the audit cycle so I’m curious. Even on Christmas Break some of them are already sending emails on the 26th.
I wonder, why everyone is not applying for FAANG and they’re happy with startups or other companies? (Not talking about who are not able to clear the interviews )
For those that got COVID, how much time off did you take from work to fully recover? I still have it and took 5 days but not sure if I take more than that is pushing it. I can WFH and do work but I’m scared if I go back to the grind of stressful work and long hours it’ll delay my recovery.
A few months ago I asked the question about using travel smart routers to host a VPN to disguise your location. The purpose of this is to have a working vacation in a foreign country, without telling work about it. My work computer has restricted access so I cannot install a VPN service on the computer without help from IT. My work around is a smart router that can directly host a VPN. Now I am in Cabo with a VPN to the US. I’ve included some details in a comment below. AMA
Any litigation paralegals here?
If you’ve ever had to do a doc review exercise with time pressure, did you get paid overtime or were you just expected to do extra hours?
My firm keeps putting pressure on us to do more hours but giving nothing in exchange! (No overtime pay nor extra time off).
How should I bring up that I’d be happy to do overtime hours only if they pay?

After spending 4 years as a mid-level ops manager, I tried to break into HR through talent acquisition. Now after 6 years in TA, I've had a hard time getting out of it. My goal was always to get into a more broad HRBP position, but I've since worked for smaller orgs without a solid HR career path. When I ask about my career goals, they keep telling me, "Soon!" Or "Maybe in 6 months!"
I'm testing SPHR in June. Any advice for securing the type of role I'm aiming for?

Anyone here from AWS solutions architect group willing to chat about their career and experience?
Have you ever given honest feedback to a company when leaving? For example the d&i initiatives leadership is taking has lead to joking about common racial stereotypes in office whenever an update is sent. I’m not used to those comments being said so freely for all to hear and fear they’d hire a minority (as part of those initiatives) in my place and subject them to that. I’m not sure what there is to gain but wanted to get other points of view.
As someone who is planning on applying R1 of 2021 for attendance by 2022, when should I start thinking about essays and recommendation letters?

Since there’s no PE bowl and I know a lot of m&a consultants have PE clients, figure I’d ask this. How will current interest rate levels affect the deal structures of LBOs moving forward? Cont.
Tips for working with someone who has the WORST attitude? We have a new nurse at the clinic I work at and she's probably the most negative person I've ever met. I'm not a "toxic positivity" person, but I also know that whining all day doesn't make the day go faster. She has an argument or snippy comment for everything you say to her, even if it's a compliment. How do I work with this person everyday!! Help!
Any Facebook PMs willing to chat? I'm preparing for my onsite, have two xfn interviews and can't find much online about those. Thanks!

Is it normal to be threatened to be fired after making mistakes that you had no idea were mistakes in the first place?
I’m a junior litigation associate at a small firm, and the managing partner says things like “you aren’t providing value to the firm” or “you’re being paid to avoid mistakes like these” when I make mistakes due to, what I believe, to be a lack of guidance and instruction. As in, they could be easily avoided with a “please keep in mind X” or something like that. Thoughts?
I gave my boss about 4 weeks notice because I’m not trying to burn any bridges. She said she wants even more time. How do I say no respectfully? I’ve been such a people pleaser these past 6 years with her but I need a week off to reset before I start my new job.
I want to get out of ID so badly. I don’t mind the work but the hours are just killing me. I just started at a new firm less than 6 months ago and I am already desperate to get out. It is not the firm or the people. I just hate the high billables. I have been applying to other jobs but I think I may need a recruiter for help. Any recommendation for a great recruiter in NYC?
Anybody who made the switch to L&E litigation early in their career have any regrets? Or has it opened up more opportunities for you in the future?
I'm not a litigator, but I've been working on a litigation matter. Big bucks partners circulated a brief - including to clients - and requested comments. There are many ticky tack comma errors. Fix?
What exactly does insurance subrogation include? From my understanding it’s representing an insurance company to recover from a third-party to recover an amount paid to the insured?
I recently (August 2021) took a job in-house in Houston after leaving a firm. My partner lives in LA but freelances so the decision was to take a good in-house job and then he would move to Houston and work remote. However, he’s started to get great directing and editing gigs in LA and now it seems impractical for him to move to Houston or even split time. I love my company but their HQ is in houston and they won’t allow remote work. Continued in comments…
Any recommendations for a sun light? It's been gray skies for the past week where I live and I am feeling more tired than usual due to the lack of sunlight.
Raise your hand if you have to work over the weekend (even though the juniors under you don’t have to)?! ✋
The main partner I work for is constantly trying to set “legal traps” to see if I fall into them. For example, he ask me a specific legal question (to which he already knows the answer) to see if I am able to deliver. I’m so nervous now (this has been going on for over a year) that I often end up falling into his trap by doing (stupid) mistakes. What do you advise me to do? My self confidence is slowly getting destroyed. This does not happen with other partners.
Partner and I disagree about usage of case law. Throughout my career, I’ve cited a case that has good/applicable law but may not have the ultimate factual finding that supports my position. In that case, I distinguish it. Partner got heated about using case law in this manner. Has anyone else used case law this way? Especially if there isn’t a case with the perfect factual outcome to fit your scenario?
Curious about demand for US-trained lawyers in the UK. Anyone have any insight on making the move? What practice areas/seniority levels are in demand, best ways to go about finding openings, etc?

Is $70,000/year, requiring 1600 billable hours, with a $4K bonus if I make the billable hours requirement, reasonable for family law?
The practice is 10-20 people; 5 attorneys if I join. In the suburb of Atlanta, GA.
Advice for young attorneys dealing with non-billable workload? I’m still my first two months at my firm but a ton of the work I’m being assigned is non-billable. I understand if I’m not still fully on boarded but how are we supposed to keep up billables while being given time consuming non billable work?
To experienced attorneys at large employers, has anyone tried starting a small side practice in a different area of law (wills & trusts, for example) and succeeded in building it out over time? Notwithstanding my present employer being happy/okay with this, curious as to the feasibility when I have no real experience in the practice area.
Would like a separate law-related side hustle to potentially build into my full time work down the road. Thanks.
Asking for a friend, may have used the C word over a text that text is now being produced in litigation. Opposing side is threatening to refer it to the Bar. Does anyone think they will care?
Idk but as cheap and stingy as they are, I would be shocked if they did
Fair enough! Haha
I didn’t think associates there had actual accrued vacation/leave days? When I worked there, it was the “take leave at your discretion but make your hours” mindset.
There are no vacation days. You can take the time you want, which is really no benefit at all.
LOL LBBS would never but there are no vacation days for attorneys anyway.
If you're in CA they have to.
I think some states require it. NY does not though
This is the correct answer. If it’s silent, then they have to pay you out. But if they have something in the handbook, you’re bound to whatever they chose
They do not if ur an attorney
Depends on the state/ employment handbook. Colorado, employers must pay out unused vacation under the law.
