Does anyone know if maternity benefits work differently when you are a partner? If so, how? I’m currently on the partner track and may consider having kids in the future when I could be partner so I was wondering how it works. I honestly can’t say that I’ve ever seen a woman at my firm go out on maternity leave while partner before (it usually seems that they have kids before partner or don’t have kids).

Great question. One thing I know is that partners don’t have PTO as owners of the business and can take whatever leave they want as long as their book of business is taken care of. I kind of assumed it was the same with maternity/paternity leave. Would be good to know.

like

If you mean partner as an equity partner in a partnership then yes, partners are not employees.

Like mentioned above they don’t have PTO and don’t really have leave. Something might get worked out that is similar, but definitionally will be different and would depend on the specific partnership agreement.

like

Ask you firm.

Ey - works the same. 16 weeks plus 3 weeks of vacation added on is paid. Plus you have the option to add unpaid.

???
For partners? Doesn’t make sense to me. MDs, sure.
Paid on what?

like

What firm? I don’t think it works any differently at Bain… and I know plenty of Partners who’ve taken leave.

Fun people, easy roll, smart work, build smart people - cool teams. I get "you'll be bored here - we can't afford you". What2do?
