Left my Big 4 job a while ago and just got my pension package and not sure whether to get it lump some or monthly. Total pension right now is ~15k. I’m ~30 years from retirement. If I leave it for retirement, it’ll accrue interest at 3.8%. I’m indifferent on whether I get the cash now or later...thoughts on how to proceed?

For people who pay rent vs people who pay mortgage, doesn’t it make more sense to pay mortgage so that you have an asset rather than throwing money away on rent?
