Does anyone know the likelihood of successfully negotiating with Lyft’s insurance? A friend was injured in GA when a Lyft driver hit his car (his Tesla recorded the whole thing) and Lyft is pushing him to accept a pain and suffering payout. He was injured, but not seriously enough for a hospital stay. His Tesla was totaled. Not my practice area so any insight is appreciated!

Not my practice area but highly likely. I negotiate EVERYTHING. Even if you think they won't you can respond to them and go from there. There's always the threat of a law suit.

Absolutely negotiate. Worst case scenario he has to initiate litigation. Did he receive medical treatment? He can recover the gross cost of all medical expenses, even if paid by insurance. And then some. If he has video, they’re screwed.

OP, a close friend of mine got hit by a Lyft driver when he was riding a motorcycle. He hired a personal injury attorney and eventually got a settlement of 225k (after costs and fees, ~100k). So yeah, definitely negotiate!!!

Stuff like the fact that nobody outside of my family and maybe one or two people would even come to my funeral. I’m feeling very unimportant. Anyone relate? 😕

Next Thursday, 1/27, we'll be having a live text-based Q&A in here all day with Tony Thai, CEO of Hyperdraft, on exiting Big Law.

Any and all questions are welcome regarding leaving Big Law to go in-house or non-traditional, starting your own venture, avoiding burnout, or really anything you want to ask!

A thread will be dropped in the morning, and close at the end of the workday. Tony will be available and popping in all day to answer your questions.

Cheers,

Want to get the perspective of younger attorneys. We’re a 4-attorney firm (2 partners, one associate, one OC) looking to add a 5th attorney. I left a mid-sized litigation firm on the East Coast where I was a partner to open my own firm. Decision was driven by quality of life. We are a civil lit firm. We don’t have billing requirements per se. We have expectations, but we’re reasonable - big on flexibility & quality of life. What are young associates looking for when evaluating job opportunities?
