Echoing what director 1 said (we basically do more strategy for ops rather than implementation). Cost savings and ebitda improvement opportunities as it relates to manufacturing, commercial, procurement, R&D, quality, logistics and freight (and more). Mostly diligences so shorter term projects (2-4 weeks to turn around a deliverable).
It will vary drastically by firm. Some support diligence, some primarily focus on portco integration work, some focus on delivering solutions to a broad array of companies in the portfolio such as batched purchasing for indirect procurement savings, help staff boards and management teams, build a network for each the portcos to talk to one another, etc.
I work in PE ops. Different flavors at different firms but it is much less consulting type work and more so strategic “one to many” value creation activities. A good example is setting up partnerships with leading software providers to get blanket discounts.
