Does anyone know what Sidley’s M&A practice is like in dc and ny? Are they brutal or is it somewhat reasonable?

Super chill and laid back

funny

For NY: Pretty high informal hours expectation (IMO) and, if you’re a junior, got the impression you have to eat shit for 3 years before you graduate from “lucky to be on the team.” Others may call this all lots of responsibility and high quality experience.

Parents want to send their children back to school not only for educational purposes but also for social interactions. I do understand that many children want that interaction with their friends and teachers. But I don't think it is going to be quite as rewarding as many think with social distancing and face coverings to be safe. No high fives, pats on the back, sharing earbuds to listen to a new song, or consoling an upset friend. Even facial expressions are lost. Tough times.

I’m currently a tax accountant with 5 YOE. I want to move into a business analyst role I’ve applied for entry level positions (competition is wild) and willing to get certs. I have great hard and soft skills that should transfer pretty well. Any advice on getting the ball rolling? Should I get a mentor? I’ve seen a lot of layoffs too which kind of makes me wonder if it’s worth it.

Hi All,

My profile was shortlisted approximately 2 weeks ago and I had my HR discussion. They have been telling that my profile has been sent for approval from Business team. Till yesterday, my profile status was "shortlisted" but now it is showing "parked". Any idea what does it mean ? Can I expect an offer letter from Mindtree and if yes, how long does it take generally ? Mindtree

Does vmware layoff employee very often ? I heard that every year they layoff twice or thrice.

Do partners usually work the most hours? That seems to be the case with our office. I’m not sure I want to try and be partner if I get rewarded with more work.

Any corporate entertainment firms looking to hire a second year associate?

So, I'm happy at my current job and have been there about 18 months. Our pay is probably 15% below market (AmLaw 100) but so are our billable requirements. An interview for another firm kind of fell into my lap, and I'm debating whether to take it just for the sake of seeing what market really is. Is there something shady about interviewing somewhere you're not totally committed to accepting an offer from?

Is there any reason to come into the office if my entire work is outside of my local office and the office is generally empty? The only partner in my office works remotely. I’m a midlevel with high hours and a great in-office setup. I end up coming in about once per week.

Is it okay that I’ve been a slow junior as we’re hours away from closing? I’m trying to be proactive and available to cross things off the list but I’m SLOW: takes me long enough that they do it themselves (even though this wasn’t an issue earlier in the deal) and even on quick tasks or emails, they respond to it before I can click send. There’s also so much about closing that I don’t understand and I feel like I’m bothering the higher-ups on the team whenever I ask. *end anxiety post*

the main partner I work for hasn’t been giving me consistent enough work (or type I want) so while I work for him still on some deals, I’ve had to go and get other work from other partners. He doesn’t regularly check in on what I’m working on. He keeps volunteering me for projects without checking if I have capacity and if he expected to know everything I’m working on… he would’ve thought I was just doing nothing the last 2 months. I don’t know how to address this workload balancing with him!
