I’ve had a lateral offer on the table for a week, but my preferred firm just informed me they won’t reach a decision until the end of next week. Current offer does not have a strict time limit attached to it—is it appropriate to notify them that I won’t be able to them know until next week, or will I alienate them if I do that?

When you give notice, do you tell everyone the same day? I’m thinking of just calling the two partners I work with the most and then saving everyone else for next week. Worried the main partners will be pissed and just dreading it so much I know I’ll want to check out the rest of the day after.

I feel that former employer might have slandered my reputation. Almost a year ago, I had accepted a physical therapist position with the VA and all was going well until I get a call from their HR department saying that they had to rescind the offer due to something that came up in my background.
