While most teachers are protected by teacher unions, I feel my voice hasn’t been heard at all with my concerns of going back to school next week. Our diocese has decided on full return 5 days/ week for all 42 schools despite a recent increase in COVID in our communities. Every other school that I know of in my state is either choosing remote learning to start the year or a hybrid approach, yet that was not an option for us. Are other Catholic schools I. Anyone go from litigation in-house to in-house corporate? I'm in-house litigation now, but I realize that those roles are harder to come by, and so wondering if I should get ahead of myself sooner rather than later and jump to corporate to expand my skill set and set up for more exit opportunities in the future. 10 YOE in Lit.

Have the recent special bonuses/hot corporate lateral market made any impact on the in-house job market? I can see more biglaw lawyers sticking around due to the bonuses and/or candidates commanding more from in house employers.

What tools do you have access to as a privacy, compliance, employment, or IP lawyer? I miss BL because we had all the best tools at our fingertips. Now we don’t have Westlaw, Lexis, or Practical Law and yet we are expected to not rely too heavily on outside counsel. It’s absurd.

Just started working in-house within the last couple of months. First real attorney gig after doing compliance. The GC was terminated and I had to fill in the role as GC (even though that’s not what I’m called). My company says they don’t need a GC. Talked to my boss today and they want to hire another to take things off my plate since I am the only attorney. They plan to rewrite my job position to do more risk and compliance. Am I wrong for feeling like I should have been included in the convo?

Having this debate with a colleague….if you tell the business you will turn around a document/respond to email, etc “shortly” do you think that necessarily implies that same day? Or just generally that you will deliver soon…ie, in the next couple of days?

I have one pro bono case that I kept when I left my firm to go in house. It’s a matter completely unrelated to my company and I have malpractice insurance through the nonprofit organization associated with the case. I’ve made clear to my client that I’m repping this client in my personal capacity. No one has asked me specifically about pro bono stuff at my company - if I know there’s no conflict of interest, is this something I should disclose? To whom should I disclose this?

Anyone know rough salary ranges for Fortune 100 media company as an Associate Counsel/Counsel position. Spoke to a recruiter and they said the range for Associate Counsel was 110K base. Isn't this way below market for someone with a few years experience?

Is it weird to ask during an interview in house whether there is any time tracking?

Context: I’m leaving my current job because I absolutely despise billing and cannot get with the “record your hours” program. I have ADHD so jumping from project to project is important for me to keep my focus (it’s what works for me), and having to stop and bill messes up that chaotic rhythm I found. So I want to be 100% sure there will be no tracking my daily time in this new position.

How are the paralegals in your department organized/structured? What are the pros and cons? We’re exploring the idea of a paralegal center of excellence. Currently paralegals are reporting to the lawyers they support. The disadvantages are that the paralegals are siloed, so there’s no back-up if they’re out and they don’t have anyone who can support them if their work gets too busy. Additionally, the lawyers have a hard time accurately evaluating them since they can’t easily compare their work.
