Completed a process for a position about 2 weeks ago and haven’t heard back. They indicated it would be a lengthy turnaround given they are setting up a new fund and building the team top down. Startup staffing question…do you think it’s professional/ethical to check references for multiple candidates before making an offer? Just had a company ask for my references and then tell me that they’re still reviewing four candidates. I never would’ve offered my manager if I knew in advance.

Has anyone experienced an exit where the newly emitted shares (primary) and shares bought by the founders (secondary) are valued differently? Is this common practice? What’s a typical valuation ratio? We have a potential investor who wants to structure the deal like this.
