Does anyone's significant other unable to WFH complain about us having it easy? I tell her we are getting even more work and add to the fact that I'm also taking care of a 1 year old while shes at work. I feel it's kind of unfair because when shes home I help out but when shes at work its me doing everything on top of work. Just ranting, I love my wife and knows she works hard as a healthcare prosessional. It just gets a lil frustrating sometimes.

The only thing easy about it is getting to dress like a bum all day but the cabin fever gets real.

We sent our kids back to daycare. Its not feasible to care for an infant and meet work obligations. My wife does act like I have it easy, but honestly we live in a very rural low risk County. The reasonable precautions she takes when she's out an about are more than sufficient to protect her. Meanwhile I'm working crazy hours for the 7/15 deadline and also taking care of most household chores during the day so that my wife can unwind when she gets home. I also don't go anywhere except for afternoon 15 minute walks. I havent traveled more than 15 minutes from my home since January (busy season + Covid).

To be fair when she is home during her day off she does try and leave me to work while she takes care of the baby. However, just seeing me "there" in the house shes always asking me for little things and favors here and there that adds up throughout the day. I guess I would not rant about it as much if she did not occasionally complain about me working long hours and not spending time with her when she comes home from work.

MAS 1- yea she did tell me she feels jealous and sad sometimes because I saw her first words and first walk while working from home. That is a blessing and I am fortunate for that. I try and be understanding, granted I'm not the most emotionally expressive person, I should try better to communicate and understand her side.

If you weren’t taking care of a one year old I might understand, but taking care of a kid while working is no joke.

like

Sounds like you both have it rough. If possible, maybe try to redirect discussions so you can both vent easily without getting irritated (like she complains about office rather than saying you have it easy, and you complain about all the literal and figurative poop you're dealing with!)

Life isn’t fair

my partner works in an office and I work at home and somehow I’ve gotten stuck doing all the chores, it’s as if me working at home makes him think I’m not actually working

It kinda sounds like she misses you and your kid and is having a hard time with that/not communicating that. Even if you are working more, you no longer commute, can probably eat healthier meals than you would be otherwise, and get to see your little one all day. That would be hard for any relatively new mom. These are really tough times, and working in healthcare, her job might be harder than she ever anticipated right now. Take it easy on her. If it's possible, try to schedule some uninterrupted "you guys" time (even w kid if she'd like). Sounds like it would mean a lot to her. Also, depending on how much this is affecting things, consider having a housekeeper come in to help with some of the heavier chores. Some people say love languages are BS, but think of it this way: if you're showing love through your taking care of your kid/doing chores around the house, and she still needs QT (quality time) with her QT (you), you might need to refocus your attention to give what she needs.

Converted my summer at a low/mid BB in the ECM team, however now been offered an analyst role at a MM PE firm (~$1bn AUM). Although my team at the BB is far from prestigious I’m just looking to hear some other opinions before I accept the PE offer, one thing catching me off guard is that most of the IP come from non-MBB consulting backgrounds so I’m wondering if this is really a good exit. I’d be taking about a 10% pay cut compared to IB but progression to roles with carry is open.

It really bothers me that I'll never have the confidence men do, and I think this will impact my career. Things like self-promotion to the right people, being highly confident in my abilities (rather than focusing on risks and mitigations), and just naturally walking into every room like I belong. I know these are not only qualities of men and I can develop them too. I'm just frustrated & venting because it feels like I'm trying so hard just to achieve the same goals. Anyone relate? Any wisdom?
