I go out for my run at 5:00 AM in morning, this has been my habit since this summer, and this schedule serves me well (I have started and stopped running multiple times because of schedule conflict) , now that weather is changing (got into 40s already in early mornings), and where I live soon it will be freezing temps.

Notice question. Can a partner ask you to defer leaving till a particular deal is closed etc, beyond your 2 weeks notice? Even if they can how badly will you burn bridges or ruin relationships by politely declining?

I already accepted new firm’s offer but Partner still hasn’t discussed anything with me and at this point I need to start discussing with the other Partners about my transition. Should I pressure the Partner that wants to discuss my move further and let him know I’d like to start the transition process or should I wait for him to reach out? TIA

Is anyone else out there really struggling with typos, section references, or things like that? I’m doing everything one is supposed to do (print out, read loud, triple checking, etc.) but still can’t get everything right. I am doing relatively well in my firm, and have been told to apply for promotion to senior assoc (1 year ahead of peers). However I have been feeling burnt out and am unsure whether I want to be doing law in 20 years’ time. My wife wants me to quit private practice and I have an opportunity to go in house. Leaving to Clerk in the Fall: Bonus Considerations.

I am leaving to clerk for a federal district judge in September. I expect that I will return to my current firm after. Should I expect some kind of handshake offer/discussion before I leave? And, if so, has anyone heard of bonus negotiations being a part of that conversation? It doesn’t seem feasible to ask for my 2022 when I leave in September, but what about asking for my full year-end bonus when I return in 2023 (rather than prorating)?

Can I hear from other big law associates working generally normal hours (45-50 hours a week). I feel guilty, so many people in this bowl seem to be working just insane hours that I’ve never met. I like my practice just fine because the work is reasonable. I’m a litigator in a niche group for context. Who else is lucky? Lol

I am in-house counsel and I regularly check bios and/or LinkedIn if you’re working for me or across from me, and I am shocked at how many senior associates and even partners in biglaw have no bio, no representative transactions, etc. You’ve already done the work, show it off! Such an easy way to sell yourself (and such an easy way to leave me wondering if you’re qualified if it’s missing).

Are there any successful alternative fee arrangements/business models other than billable hours? Excluding contingency in plaintiff.
