With these questions, it’s important to ask people to qualify whether they went to business school
Of course PE/VC, IM, etc. and I’d say *maybe* some of the blue chippy rotational leadership programs with good comp and fast promotions. Otherwise probably not.
Edit: I went to business school
You’d have to get a really healthy bump upon graduation for it to be -fiscally- worthwhile. Think about it this way, and excuse the quick/not totally accurate math: let’s say you currently make 100k, and you’re entering a school that, with room and board, costs ~60k a year. Over those two years, you’re losing out on 2x100k income and also paying an additional 2x60k, and that’s not accounting for any interest on those loans, or missed stock market or other gains on your missed income. Realistically, you’re probably throwing away maybe $200-400k in lost earnings and tuition, depending on your exact situation. Run the numbers for yourself and see where you stand; I did for myself and the result was...depressing. At least now though I’ve saved myself a boatload of money and wasted effort.
Caveat: if your goal is IB or MBB, and you think you could realistically stick with it for at least a while, then going to a top bschool is definitely worth it.
Probably worth it if you’re doing part time. Will maybe get a bump and other exit opps that require higher degrees. Otherwise, no.
