I’m in tax. I’m open to suggestions. It seems I already messed up on day 1 by picking tax lol

Yeah, that is issue 1 - having forecasting modeling skills or just the skill set in general. The hiring people are right in that our particular skill set just doesn’t translate to other roles very well. I guess I could attempt to learn it on my own, but then I also have to convince a hiring manager I have the right experience. Really, tax is often more like law in its skillset than it is accounting…at least in my experience. So I’m in this catch 22 where I either need to go back to school (hello debt and lost income) and start over or I need to just move to entry level again in a new specialty. And even if it was financially realistic, I don’t know how easy that is to convince an employer to hire a manager with years of experience in tax to come in at entry level in something else at much lower pay. Seems like it would be a question mark to them and I’d be at disadvantage. But who knows. I haven’t even gotten to that part yet because I can’t make the jump yet to accepting the pay cut lol

Personally, I absolutely hated risk advisory, but if you're good with it, there are a lot of controls/compliance roles that pay pretty well. Make sure you're excited for the role. I was super picky when I left for industry and eventually it worked out.

Felt like for GL Accounting I went through the same thing month over month. With Risk it’s super repetitive but I get to chit chat with all the process owners.

My exit is retirement.

Take your time and leave on your own terms. Don’t rush and take a crappy industry job because you dread your job. If you rush you’re more likely to make mistakes.

I needed to read that today. I’m job searching and I’m like, don’t settle. Write a goal list and stick to it. Don’t just take a job to leave your crappy situation. So thank you.

Is Risk Advisory a fancy way to say assurance involving IT? If so, following. I see leaving for an industry IA job as your career taking a hit but agree that I’m tired of the unrealistic workloads.

IT is one half the other is SOX/IA for the Business Process side.

Career advice: I became an HR mgr/BP relatively early on in my career so have 7 years BP exp. and 9 overall. I work in pharma as a Sr. BP/manager now. I’d like to make a move into an AD or higher role but seem to only get consideration for lateral moves. Not sure if it’s because I don’t have enough experience or if I’ve never had direct reports? How did you make that first jump? I’d need to relocate for anything at my current org which is not possible for me right now. Thanks for insights!

Need advice for resigning while on bench. I already have a start date with the new employer. Should I do a traditional two week notice or give <=1 week notice instead? My goal is to not burn bridges, but I also don’t want to get let go on the spot since I have nothing to “wrap up” besides HR tasks. I’ve read on here that sometimes they will let you go day of and pay you out for two weeks but I don’t see why any firm would do that for somebody not currently performing billable work...
