Does everyone who joins Big 4 have a 2 years and done mindset or just me? I feel like I just joined Kentucky and enjoying the ride until draft day.

It’s about the opportunities you get after 2 years at a Big 4 firm. Usually you are supposed to earn a promo at the end of 2 years, which irrespective of whether you get or not is a motivator to look outside. Career outcomes I’ve seen people take: 1. Move to another Big 4 for more money (Most likely). 2. Move to an entry level product role. 3. Move to a second tier consulting firm at a higher designation. Am certain there are more outcomes out there as well, but these are the most likeliest.

If you are not a partner, do any of the Big 4 have a mandatory retirement age? I have a friend who is working in industry and has been approached by a few firms as he has a very desirable technical skill set. He is in his 50's and doesn't want to make a move unless there is some runway to keep working. He basically could work as long as he wants where he is at. The pay increase would be significant for him to jump to but if he is mandatorily forced out in a few years it might not be worth it.

Is there a wrong time to quit? Started in audit at Big 4 less than a year ago and I already feel burned out. I was planning on staying for a few years and then moving to private accounting and getting a job with better pay, better hours, etc. But at this point, I don’t think I want to work in accounting long term. Is it bad to quit a job I’ve been at for less than a year? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Decision time: I got offered a position with EY and also got an offer from a mid-tier firm. The mid-tier is paying about $14k more than the Big 4. Is it wise to just not consider the pay difference and just go Big 4 to have it on my resume? I could negotiate but I feel like the answer will be no.
