Unless you're aligned to a competency, have some sales metrics, done a ton of BD/proposal work and have lead a team for at least 6 months, probably not getting promoted regardless of tenure. It's hard to get promo in 1Y because you won't has as much of a network to back you up. Just my thoughts
lol No
No. And not sure why audit's promotion policy is relevant to us. Does Accenture promote consultants based on the same criteria it uses for receptionists?
We have grades within our ranks. S1-S5 are all the Staff and Senior grades (so a first year senior would be graded as an S3, for example). This dictates salary band and your peer group for annual performance comparison. It suggests time within a rank, but does not dictate it. If you are a 3rd year Senior, you're an S5, if you're a 5th year Senior, you're still an S5 (and maybe a weak performer who is on the way out)
An offer with a promotion promise seems unlikely (but I obviously don't have any evidence to say it's impossible). It might say that they are eligible for promotion in 1 year--that would feel more likely to me.
Actually there's all the way up to S7 looking at the latest report. There's quite a few fifth year Seniors waiting for a promotion in Advisory. Also @OP, it's very strange that your friend was promised a promotion after a year. Recruiting does not make agreements like that and I hope he got it in writing. I've never seen a new experienced hire get promoted in a year, they typically have to put in some more time.
From my understanding, you catch up to the MBA-holders over time. A non-MBA S5 would probably be somewhere around $125+, with MBAs coming in as Seniors at $140.

Hahaha no, a friend of mine went to EY and said his offer included that he'd be promoted to manager after 1 year. Another person told me that meant he'd be a 5th year senior, and I took that as "oh I guess their advisory promotes how audit promotes"
Sometimes people will confuse the fact that a Senior 1 is a grade of S3, but like I said, the grades are more HR-facing tags
Oh ok, what's the salary range for an S5 (not strategy or MBA)?
Yeah I said "hope u got it in writing", he said he did, butwho knows
I defer to you, EY2, I did not know it went all the way to S7, but the same logic applies. I must say, if I was a 5th-year Senior, I'd start to wonder if this was the career for me. Is that more prevalent in ITA?
@EY1 yep, typically since we've been on a hiring binge for Seniors and Managers, there's less space for promotes and then there's the merit component... Usually the good ones make it after 2-3 years though. But there's a good amount of S7's within ITA.
@EY2 that sounds frustrating--in Strategy I don't think we have any S7s (but I may be wrong). We'd begin to counsel out at that point, I believe.
@EY1 I fully support counseling them out at the S6/S7 mark because God help them when they're trying to make it to SM. But then again, they might have had reasons for being on the scenic route, such as a LOA.
The audit promotion mechanism works in Risk, it's much more competitive to make it to manager in PI
