Does having a 'director' in your job title as opposed to being a Sr medical writer set you apart for future career growth or is it just a name?

I do not qualify for FMLA - What are the chances of the firm letting me go when I take short term disability? My doctor is scheduling a surgery requiring 8 weeks of recovery. I will not have been with the firm for a year at the time of the surgery, so FMLA (job protection) does not apply to me. I am in constant pain, but I am thinking to wait until I’ve been with the firm for a year to get the surgery. I cannot afford to lose health insurance if they let me go. Thanks for your advice!
