Does it get better after your first busy season? I hear your staff 2 year is the best. Thoughts?

Lol. Staff 2 is the worst. At least in tax

Unless you are acting senior, Staff 2 is a breeze

like

It's been downhill since I interned. Staff 2 should be easy, but if you work with a weaker staff 1, then you'll be picking up the slack. I would take advantage of your staff 2 year and ask as many questions as possible because it's still acceptable to not know the basics.

like

Staff 2 is definitely easier based on the fact that you finally have a basic understanding of your job. I've heard it's the best year because you know what you're doing and don't have the responsibility yet. For me, that wasn't the case as I in-charged jobs. Do what's best for you, and speak up if you feel you're ready for more.

like

As a Staff 2 you should be acting senior, at least on a few projects, if you want to get promoted.

like

I started in Jan as a staff 1 and I'm being promoted to staff 2 in October. Getting thrown into the fire the second you start was a tough learning curve. Was hoping staff 2 year will be a bit easier in terms of understanding.

like

In terms of understanding, definitely. It was the ownership of your work and the new expectations that made it rough, for me personally.

like

The worst year by far

like

@KPMG1 what if you started at the end of the year, and got thrown right into busy season? Most people are not ready to start senioring in that case. Or some firms (not mine btw) have mandatory rules about waiting 3 years before promotion. In that case Staff 2 is definitely easier

Then that would be a special case but it also won't be a breeze. And for the firms that have mandatory 3 year rules it obviously wouldn't apply. In my experience though, I interned and started at my firm, and we don't have a mandatory 2 year rule, Staff 2 was the worst.

But I would agree with you if there was a mandatory 3 year rule Staff 2 would be easier than Staff 1, because everything finally starts to click
