That’s likely a non-solicit agreement they are referring to. I don’t think they would create problems for you, but rather the client if that’s the case.
Could you ask your manager more about why they think that? Maybe then you can take a look at the “rules” for yourself and determine if it’s ok or not. Or just take a closer look at your current contract in general.
Aaah, ok. That makes more sense. Sounds like you may have signed a non-compete with your current employer. That would be a contract with them, not the client (which is why they said they have no such contract). You would need to read your employment agreement to see if there are stipulations about leaving to work directly with a client and, if so, how much time you are legally required to wait.
Are you sure he didn't mean conflict of interest?
It really depends on what agreements have been made and signed. I would check your contract just to be sure. You def don't want to put yourself in a bad spot.
