Does it look bad if you don't go to the firm holiday party? I feel like it'll be so big no one will even miss me, and it's not mandatory, but I'm also new-ish and a junior so I don't want to look like I'm not a team player. To be honest I'm a newlywed (Nov 30th) and just want to spend every night in bed with my wife! But I obviously can't tell them that.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 honestly a pretty good excuse. If I was your boss I'd understand

Go to the party. Don't get caught doing something with your new wife in the back office. Save it for later. Two hours of your life where y'all are all dressed up staring at each other, while still schmoozing a little, won't dampen the fire.

like

It depends on the culture at your firm, though from your original post I’d guess that you can probably bail. I would ask other associates who were around for previous holiday parties to figure out what the vibe is.

What holiday party did you get?
Anyone living close to an office, got a holiday party with food and drinks, and the venue started open for them until around midnight. I have historically either gone to Vegas or on a cruise as my vacation - I liked to gamble. Taking a break from that activity, trying to figure out a new getaway.

Not physically active, so hiking/camping activities are out, and I turn to a lobster in the sun, so not big on beaches etc. And I don't drink. (I know, I'm THAT guy, so much fun right?)

Appreciate ideas on things to go explore and do for a getaway while the wife and kid are at Disney. So far all I thought of is a cooking class.

I recently came to know few things about IBM which i didn't know before joining -
Officially 22 vacation leaves are there but can't take more than 15, if you take it your utilisation goes down for that year, and automatically performance will be impacted.

Sick leaves/ casual/compensating leaves all kind of leaves are going to impact utilisation, and then performance.

Only 12 leaves can be carry forwarded to next year, so at the end of year remaining leave balance will be lapsed.

Found a random engagement ring.

Hi all, so I found a platinum ring (which I assumed it's an engagement ring as it has dates and initials engraved on top.) And a Divvy tag (I have no idea what it was until I googled it. Apparently it's a bike sharing service in Chicago) in a briefcase I ordered online. I was thinking of returning the item back to the store but that wouldn't help the person who lost the ring. Attached is a picture of them.

What should I do now?

Contentious case. Parents each have the same amount of parenting time / visitation. Question is when the schedule changes and decreases frequency of exchanges. I send opposing counsel my client’s proposal and the response is “I won’t budge.” Thinking that’s odd (“I” instead of “my client” or the like), I respond that opposing counsel has an obligation to take it to the client, and immediately get “this isn’t productive. Next communication better be a signed agreement by your client.”
