Does it make financial sense to spend $1,500-$2,000 on a ski trip with my partner on a $100k/year salary? Heading to Vail for 4 days. Cost includes everything.

Don’t know the details but I’d say to spend money in things that rejuvenate you and strengthen your relationships. If your house is in order, this seems like an ok use of money

2k for a ski trip is standard. Do it. The memories will last you a lifetime.

Thank's everyone for your response! Just a little context, I'm in my mid 20's with a $150k net worth, no debt. My partner and I got into an argument on this matter because I was hesitant on spending so much on a ski trip(this will be my second time on the slopes so beginner level). It seems like I was definitely in the wrong here and my frugal self got the better of me.

like

Colorado is mostly completely open. So you’ll be able to enjoy dining, bars etc. if this is one of your concerns.

Another consideration is time of year you’re planning to visit. We’re very much I. Spring skiing season now. Very hot and snow conditions are vary day by day, hour by hour. For beginners I don’t think this is too much of a concern but something to be mindful of. Crowds and traffic are certainly lighter now which is a plus!

That’s a pretty good deal for Vail. My wife and I just spent way more than that at big sky.

like

That’s cheap for Vail. That place is amazing. Do it, you won’t regret it.

like

Hell yeah. Go get that pow

like

Yes. To make you feel better: I spent $1,000 on a 2-day music festival trip back when I was on a $63000 salary. Memory lasts. Doesn’t hurt me financially. Never regretted it.

likehelpful

Absolutely agree for those who are low on debt. I made lots of great memories when I was younger & poorer and I really value that now that I have much less free time and a thinning roster of friends due to work/marriage/children

Financial sense is completely subjective. But I always prioritize experiences with loved ones, even if the next month or two is a bit lean

like

^what they said. You’ll earn the money back. Go have fun and make memories.

likesmart

If you can save for it and not go into debt then sure, go for it

like

Agree with BCG1, invest in your well being. Go skiing with your partner, if it promotes both your well being it’s better than any financial investment

like

Not if you have $100k in debt, no retirement, no savings and you spend every dollar you make. In other words, your annual salary alone is not enough info to determine if the trip makes financial sense. You’re getting a lot of emotional responses to to do it “it’s a great deal!”, but you’re asking if it makes financial sense.

likesmart

no your salary and net worth is too low for your age

funny

That’s a good deal. Also, check out Epic Pass it’s on sale now.

like

Yes, go visit hot springs as well and/or go to Aspen instead of Vail.

like

There aren’ any hot springs at/near Vail.

And don’t complain about money when your there. It takes the fun out of the trip. Tell yourself you work hard and deserve it.

like

Absolutely. Spending your money in meaningful and enjoyable ways is the best use of it. Contributing to retirement savings and having an emergency fund is very important, of course, but putting that $2k into QQQ or BTC or buying a gas station won’t bring you the joy that trip will.

like

I literally work so I can afford these types of ski trips. Skiing is my favourite thing to do. Unfortunately it’s an expensive hobby 😔

like

Would you rather die with $2M sitting in your bank account, and not have lived those experiences & great trips -or- die with $1.6M sitting in your bank account and have those great experiences?

Ski in Europe, cheaper, better and more chic. Corchouvel, Verbier, San Anton, Chamonix... just pick one and experience the difference

Hi Sharks,

Please guide.
I got selected in HCL.
They asked me to share the documents , but they didn't share the offer letter, it's been 1 week already.
Do they take time in releasing offer letters generally , or am I rejected already ?

Also, they mentioned 5% engagement bonus , and 8% annual bonus, do they give full amount , or some part of it.

How much an average candidate can expect from these bonus ?

24, a decent amount of savings in the bank. I’m sort of interested in buying a property in the next few years.
Is this a good or bad idea? I live in Ny area, so obviously the city would probably be too expensive to buy any property. Would probably have to buy further out in westchester, Long Island, maybe connecticut or NJ. If I buy, should I be living there? Or should I rent it out until I’m ready to live there (assuming it’s a bit further from the city). Very early stages of just thinking
