I would say yes but not because of looks. If you have two people on the same level 20 years apart you would assume the younger individual is more ambitious and maybe smarter so you would rather invest in their progression as they have 20 years less experience but ended up in the same position as the 50 year old. Of course other factors need to be taken into account too

Yes there is research to back up that attractive people are more likely to get promoted, humans are biased creatures. Also crazy things like pheromones will help. We are animals ya’ll don’t forget it.

Can’t wait to get back to the office: they just need a whif of my pheromones and I’m good to go

This seems oddly specific… are you the late 50’s man?

likefunnysmart

Remote equalizes this. The tall attractive ones are having none of that. Back in!

Can’t wait to get back in person and cash in my privilege as a 6 foot tall woman (obviously /s but just in case lol)

Yes and this is why I spend money on a skincare routine, eat nothing but boring salads, deny myself Ben & Jerry’s ice cream and booked myself into a wellness retreat for next week. People respond to these things way more than they ever care to admit

Same as pwc1 but if you don’t like the smell of selenium sulfide shampoo (something about it bothered me) I use pyrithione zinc shampoo on my head & as a body wash for my psoriasis and it works fabulously. I just get the off brand stuff as long as the active ingredient is pyrithione zinc. Has worked like a charm for 5 yrs on my previously ‘untreatable’ skin issues

More attractive = more likely to produce good looking kids who produce more good looking kids. Welcome to reality

Good looking guys can date ugly girls and ugly chubby guys can wheel smokeshows, it’s super subjective to judge somebody based on personal appearance

Yes, why do you think that white good looking males tend to get promoted the most often?

like

The answer might change if you ask who will the client hire. When there is real need, no one cares about the looks or goes for the more experienced looking one

Is it because they are attractive that they get promotions? Or because they are attractive they are more confident and more accustomed to priority treatment, and therefore demand more respect and promotions?

Good question. It assumes the attractive person is equally capable if not more. In that case, optics will always win. Otherwise, confidence from looks alone can only go thus far

Bro, you discovered the secret to success! Work someplace everyone is uglier than you are!

Attractive people are more trustworthy

Old, fat, ugly white men will still get ahead more than an old, fat, ugly women.

Just got a lateral hire offer for a Sr Associate role with BCG. Contract states that I can go for Consultant promo in 12 months. I'm interpreting this as, if I don't make the promo threshold in 12 months, I'd be counseled out. Is this a reasonable assumption? Or would I get a few more months of time to work on feedback? I'm nervous - should I be? :(

What are your thoughts about wearing only a casual graphic tee for an interview at a non-tech company? Recruiter from Amazon reached out for a phone screen for a L7 role st Amazon - Principal Product Manager, Technical. I'm a first year M and have been in consulting mostly. I do have the technical expertise the role requires but no product management experience per se. Think L7 at Amazon for me is a reach. My concern is if I interview and fail, I will be barred from interviewing from another role for 6 to 12 months. Should I give it a shot or save my chance for something more realistic (e.g. L6)?

Asking for my spouse. She is five months pregnant and has a amazon offer. She works for Deloitte too. Deloitte definitely has a better maternity leave but amazon is doubling her take home salary.
