Is the MBB Sponsored MBA worth it? Hi I’m going to be working full-time at an MBB soon and have been thinking about pursuing an MBA in ~3 years. If I can continue receiving promotions, is the opportunity cost worth it? Is it better to leave MBB after those 2-3 into an industry role? Also, is it too ambitious to say I want to earn $1MM/YR? Would exiting to industry be a faster way to do it than consulting? Thanks McKinsey & Company Bain & Company Boston Consulting Group

Yes they do, and it’s often the riskiest move given that you have a set amount of time to build your case to partnership and need to rebuild your internal network (much easier said than done!). I always advise people who are coming in at that level to give yourself an extra year of runway (for example, come in at principal (or equivalent) level with a year of tenure, to pad in the margin.

yea for what it’s worth, I have seen three directors (AP equivalent at S&) join MBB. One got downleveled to EM but quickly became AP, the other two i believe both became principals? They were both experienced directors, probably on the verge of partnership within a yr or two here. Also, interestingly both of these two were “subject matter experts” as opposed to more functionally fluid directors
