Does staying in big 4 get harder or easier as you move up?

It presents different challenges. There are different pressures at each level, but you have more tools as you progress. I would say it became more flexible for me and I had more control, but days were as stressful or worse. Left in January and I haven't looked back, though I don't regret the time I spent in B4.

Echoing RA director 1, it's a totally different ballgame once you get to management. There is more flexibility for sure, but also a lot more on your shoulders. For myself as manager, I have actually found it less stressful because ultimately I am (mostly) in control vs as a senior needing a good manager/director to provide the proper support to alleviate some of the stress.

like

Yeah I can't decide if the increased flexibility outweighs the increased stress. It also seems like depending on the client the "increased flexibility" might not even exist

I'm in tax but what kind of company did you leave for?

I went to a large bank to do risk management. I agree with the above, but here's the rub, you're probably more reliant on your team doing a good job than you were reliant on your mgr/director. If your team doesn't get their shit done or quits you're up a creek. Can't brute force it as a mgr/dir.

Thoughts on Masters in Environmental Management programs? UCSB, Yale, etc. I have a non-technical degree (Bachelor of Arts) and have been in management consulting at a Big 4 the last 5 years. I want to pivot my career to do something more meaningful - make a positive impact in the world, rather than continuing to help rich corporations get richer. Thinking that doing a Masters will help arm myself with environmental / sustainability knowledge and a network.

Currently, nothing exciting about my job at Big 4 so, would like to give myself 4-6 months before I give a shot at FAANG+M, any suggestions on what key skills I should focus on and tips for interview prep? Open to learn any new skill (hard or soft) that can improve my chance at faang. All suggestions that help me plan and execute this journey are welcome.

Hi Imad! I recently started at B4, realizing after compliance busy season I’m more interested in audit. Internally transfer doesn’t seem guaranteed and will take at least 6+ months. (Cont.)

I’ve always been so assured that B4 and partnership were ultimately what my career needed to be, but now the allure of staying in mgmt consulting is slowly becoming less attractive and that I need to start considering these bigger tech companies. Currently a first year big 4 audit associate who completed my first busy season a few months ago. Since starting I have had a pretty rough go of it and don’t think I am cut out for audit work or the life style. I thoroughly enjoy financial accounting and found it interesting in school, but loathe audit workpapers, anything related to controls, and the fact that it feels like a constant check the box exercise. I also can’t stand sitting in a conference room and CONT.
